Rory McIlroy(-16) has won the 2011 U.S. Open by 8 strokes, the 4th greatest margin of victory in U.S. Open history.  There have been 111 U.S. Opens.  Full leaderboard.

McIlroy, dominant from start to finish, redeemed himself after a devastating collapse at the 2011 Masters, a tournament he had in hand after the first three days.

Simply an incredible, historical performance this week at Congressional. McIlroy’s was the lowest score to par (-16) in U.S. Open history.   For a list of the 10 best scores in U.S. Open history, click here.

Even though the tournament was over practically before the day began, the crowds stayed until the end.  They knew they were witnessing history.

Rory McIlroy is the new poster boy of golf.  He is popular.  He is good.  He is esteemed by his fellow tour golfers.  He will now be compared to Tiger Woods (check Woods’ greatest margins of victory here) as the majors roll on.

Looking forward to The Open – July 14 thru 17 at Royal St. George’s Golf Club.
