OK. We’re having a party tonight.  It’s one of my roommates’ birthday.  Happy Birthday Tan!

So this is a quick one I owe all to wikipedia.org.  It’s those golfers who have won the most PGA Championships.  But, hey, I could still add some aperitif-infused observations.  Let’s see…

First, from Bleacher Report, check out their Golf coverage for live blogging from the 2011 PGA Championship and other articles.  Now for those quick observations before engorgin’ and imbibin’.

Jack Nicklaus has five wins – the most of anyone in the modern stroke play era that began in 1958.  Before that it was a match play event.

Walter Hagen (match), Tiger Woods (stroke), Gene Sarazen (match), Jim Barnes (match), Leo Diegel (match), Denny Shute (match) won the PGA back-to-back.  That means Tiger Woods is the only player ever to win the PGA two years in a row under the current stroke play scoring system.  Add that to the list.

Though he just missed the 2011 cut.

Four of the 11 non-Americans to win the PGA did it twice.

1.  USA Walter Hagen 5 1921, 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927
