Jim Thome Hits 600th Homer: Baseball’s Top 50 Home Run Leaders of All Time
Posted by Vin Getz
The Minnesota Twins‘ (and once long-time Cleveland Indians‘) Jim Thome has hit his 600th home run, putting him in one of the most exclusive clubs in baseball. Thome now has hit the eighth most home runs in baseball history. Only eight players ever have hit at least 600 homers.
Thome is a hero on this list, one of those players who emerged from the steroid era untainted by juicing rumors.
Take a look at the top 50 home run hitters in baseball history. Interesting, with definitely a few surprises.
Did you recall Ken Griffey, Jr. has the fifth most homers of all time, putting him right behind Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth and Willie Mays? That is some seriously elite company.
Meanwhile, Alex Rodriguez, who has been battling multiple injuries over the last few years, is just 137 home runs from overtaking the No. 1 spot from Barry Bonds.
Is that Dave Kingman down there?
How about all these modern players on the list? Get this: 26 of the 50 players on this list played some part of their career in the 1990′s or later. Of course that is due in part to steroids, but not wholly.
