World Series Game 7 Results All Time

The St. Louis Cardinals Force Another Game 7

The St. Louis Cardinals Force Another Game 7 (star-telegram.com)

The St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers are facing off tonight in the 40th Game 7 in World Series history (results below).  How about that incredible Game 6 by the way? It’s one of the greatest games in World Series history, and not long after Albert Pujols‘ 3-HR night, too.  What a great series this has been.

Anyway, back to Game 7′s.  Only 36 of the previous 39 World Series with a Game 7 were decided in the seventh game.  That’s because the first World Series, in 1903, went eight games.  So did the 1919 and 1921 World Series.  In all three of those series, whichever team won five games first, won the title.  I’ve added the results for these series below today’s main list.

There are two more anomalies.  The 1912 series went “eight” games because Game 2 was called due to darkness while still tied 6-6 in the 11th.  That game was not official. So the teams played eight games, but only seven counted.  Secondly, the Cleveland Indians won the 1920 series five games to two.  I’ve included these Game 7′s along with the others below because, technically, that was the final game of the championship each time. Ah, baseball.

And wouldn’t you know it, the Cardinals have won the most Game 7′s in baseball history.  They’re looking for their eighth tonight.  Who’s in second?  You won’t believe it – the Pittsburgh Pirates (and the New York Yankees) have won five Game 7′s each.

I’ll post the results of tonight’s Game 7 when the game is over…
