Tony Stewart has been named the Martini & Rossi Driver of the Year for 2011.  Stewart won the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship (his third).  It is his second Driver of the Year award – his first was in 2005, when he won his second NASCAR title.

But it’s, of course, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson who have won the most Driver of the Year awards – four a piece.  The two have dominated stock car racing for the past two decades.

But you won’t just see NASCAR drivers on this list.  There are F1 and IndyCar drivers like the first winner, Mario Andretti, in 1967.  Andretti won it three times.  His son Michael also won it, in 1991.

Bobby Rahal is another F1, IndyCar winner – he also was DoY three times.

You even have drag racers, like John Force and Tony Schumacher, making an appearance.

But NASCAR dominates the list.  There’s Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Bobby Allison, Darrell Waltrip, David Pearson and more…
