David Akers and Kickers with the Most Field Goals in a Single Season

David Akers split the uprights four times on Saturday in a 19-17 San Francisco 49ers win over the Seattle Seahawks. That gave Akers 42 field goals on the year and the new record for field goals in a season. And there’s still one more game to go.
Obviously the field goal has been an integral part of the 49ers success this season, as they move to an unexpected 12-3.
Akers and Neil Rackers are the only two kickers to record at least 4o field goals in a single season. Here are the top 20 kickers with the most FGs in a season.
It seems the field goal has increased in importance in recent times. Only two of the 26 kickers below are pre-1990s. Eight are still active, including the top 3.
The Indianapolis Colts and the New York Giants are the most represented teams below.
