Only eight pitchers in the history of baseball have struck out more batters than pitched innings.

Here they are (minimum 1,000 innings pitched)…

Randy Johnson has the highest career strikeouts per nine innings pitched.  Nolan Ryan, the all-time strikeouts leader, also makes the list.

Kerry Wood, Tim Lincecum and Oliver Perez were all still active as of last season.
