Most Appearances in an NHL All-Star Game
The 2012 NHL All-Star Game is Sunday, January 29th in Ottawa. The full rosters will be announced Thursday, the 12th. Here are the final fan voting results.
The NHL has been holding an All-Star Game since 1947, when in a benefit game, a group of All-Stars took on the Toronto Maple Leafs. There have been many variations of the game since then.
Throughout the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, All-Stars faced off against the Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens and Chicago Black Hawks. A couple of times it was the First Team All-Stars vs. Second Team. Both games ended in ties.
1969 saw the game shift to a more modern, geographical format (thanks to the 1967 expansion from the Original Six). Now there was East vs. West, later to be Wales vs. Campbell, only to return to East vs. West again in 1994.
Between 1998 and 2002, North America played The World.
Finally, last season saw Team Lidstrom take on Team Staal, the two team captains, in the new “fantasy draft” format, which will continue in 2012.
Today’s list are those players with the most NHL All-Star Game appearances.
