Sean Payton Suspended Without Pay for 1 Year. Payton’s Coaching and Playing Records

See Ya

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has been suspended for a full year in the wake of what is being called “Bountygate,” where then-Saints defensive coordinator, Gregg Williams, set up a pay scale for taking opponents down or out of games.  Williams is suspended indefinitely.

Here’s a final look at Payton for a while – his coaching history from college through the pros.  He and Drew Brees took the 2009 Saints to the peak.

Payton played college ball for Eastern Illinois University.  He wound up becoming an undrafted quarterback, but got his chance with the 1987 football strike…and, yup, was a replacement player.  He made it into three games for the Chicago Bears and was 8 for 23 for 79 yards with 0 TDs and an INT.
