Tyson Chandler and NBA Defensive Players of the Year
Posted by Vin Getz
The New York Knicks‘ Tyson Chandler has been named the 2011-12 NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He didn’t just take the Knicks’ defense to another level, he brought defense to the team in the first place. The Knicks were notorious for not playing any the last few years.
Winning the title with the Dallas Mavericks last season and playing in New York is making Tyson Chandler a household name.
But, do you know who the Milwaukee Bucks‘ Sidney Moncrief is?
Moncrief was the first (and second) NBA Defensive Player of the Year.
The award has been given to the NBA‘s best defensive player beginning with the 1982-83 season.
Tyson Chandler is the 17th player to win it. Nine have won it once and eight more than once. Dikembe Mutombo and Ben Wallace are the most decorated with four awards.
And, look at that, even Michael Jordan won one.
