NHL: Los Angeles Kings and the Longest Waits Before Winning First Stanley Cup
The L.A. Kings, up 3-0 on the New Jersey Devils in the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals as of the date of this post, are looking to end one of the longest current titleless streaks in American sports – 44 years.
Neither they nor the St. Louis Blues have won the Cup since both teams’ inaugural season, 1967-68.
They head today’s list, a look at how long it took each of today’s NHL franchises to win their first championship.
In 1995-96, the Colorado Avalanche became the first, and only, hockey team to win the Cup in its first season. Technically, that is. They were the Quebec Nordiques for 16 Cup-less years before that.
