Martina Navratilova Went to the Wimbledon Finals a Record 12 Times

Serena Williams found herself in a battle with Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska for the 2012 Wimbledon title. After total first set domination (6-1), Williams dropped the second in a nail-biter (7-5).

But Serena returned to form in the third set, and took home her fifth Wimbledon title, tying her with Venus for fourth all time with five Venus Rosewater Dishes.

It was Serena’s seventh Wimbledon Finals, fifth all-time, and one behind her sister Venus. Radwanska was making her first appearance.

Martina Navratilova has the most Wimbledon Finals appearances ever, man or woman, with 12. She won an astounding nine of them, most all-time.

American favorite Chris Evert managed a very respectable 10 Finals appearances, but lost seven of them (five of those to arch nemesis Navratilova).

Here’s a list of all the ladies with at least two Wimbledon Finals appearances since the Open Era (1968-), and how they fared. For a look at women with the most Wimbledon titles, Sports List of the Day has you covered there: Greatest Wimbledon Champions of the Open Era.
