The 1943-44 Montreal Canadiens Won The Stanley Cup, And Beat The Toronto Maple Leafs In An 11-0 Shutout Along The Way

Yesterday, Sports List of the Day checked out some serious blowouts in the NBA playoffs – the top 20 of all time.

But, hey, the NHL‘s Stanley Cup Playoffs are in full swing, too, so let’s skate on over to hockey and look at some of that sport’s big-time postseason blowouts.

A little twist, though.

How about shutouts?

Exactly 20 NHL playoff games ended 7-0 or worse – straight up to two double-digit shutouts (and, egad, both against the hard-luck Toronto Maple Leafs). The Montreal Canadiens beat them 11-0 in 1944. Then, it was the Boston Bruins‘ turn in 1969, slipping 10 into the net, while yielding none on their end.

And how about this…

In the very next game, the Bruins went ahead and won 7-0 against the Leafs, starting off that series two games to none and 17-0 in goals.

Well, that’s quite a bit ridiculous now, isn’t it?

Note: Losers were on the road unless noted in CAPS.
