Here’s a back-to-back for you, right in the middle of the NHL and NBA playoffs. First, today, we’ll take a look at the best home teams (franchises) in Stanley Cup Playoff history. Tomorrow, we’ll check out the NBA’s best. The lists are a little different, but not remarkably so.

Which league has the better home-ice or home-court advantage?

Let’s start with the NHL.

At the top, you have two teams that owned the league in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s and the most titled team of all. It goes Edmonton Oilers, Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders. Each have won about twice as many home playoff games as they lost.

Seven of the NHL’s 30 current franchises have losing home records in the postseason. Only six franchises have postseason winning percentages at home over .600.
