NBA Draft: Cleveland Cavaliers and Teams with the Most No. 1 Picks All-Time

The Cleveland Cavaliers Do It Again - Six No. 1 NBA Draft Picks

The Cleveland Cavaliers Do It Again – Six No. 1 NBA Draft Picks

If you want to see a chronological order of the NBA Draft’s No. 1 picks from 1947 through today, check out a previous post on Sports List of the Day, here.

But let’s break it down a different way. How about by team, so we can all see who got who over time? Since the first draft in 1947, 24 different teams, including three defunct ones, have had the No. 1 pick.

The Cleveland Cavaliers just snagged their sixth (and third of the last four years, following LeBron James’ departure…hmm), giving that franchise the most of all.

As we’ve already seen, getting the No. 1 pick doesn’t necessarily eventually lead to a title somewhere down the line. In fact, the opposite is true. Most No. 1′s haven’t won a ring, regardless of the team they played forĀ  – whether the one that drafted them or another.
