NBA: Players with the Most Rebounds in the Postseason

Bill Russell Grabs a Rebound in the 1957 Playoffs

Bill Russell Grabs a Rebound in the 1957 Playoffs

Bill Russell strikes again. On the way to 11 rings with the Boston Celtics, Russell snatched over 4,000 postseason rebounds, the only NBAer to post such a number.

Russell’s longtime Laker adversary, Wilt “The Stilt” Chamberlain, just missed the mark.

Then, it’s quite a drop off  – like over 1,000 less rebounds – before catching up with good ol’ Shaquille O’Neal in third.

There are some definite surprises in here. Check out Larry Bird in 10th, not far from the much taller (7’0″) center Robert Parish. And how about Magic Johnson making the list.

And what’s this? Charles Oakley with more playoff rebounds than Patrick Ewing? Who would’ve thunk?

NBA: Wilt Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant and Ballers with the Most Points in a Single Game

Wilt Chamberlain After His 100-Point Game

Wilt Chamberlain After His 100-Point Game (totalprosports.com)

It just so happens that the NBA‘s 60-point barrier has been breached 60 times.

Here are all the occasions an NBAer has scored 60 points or more in a single basketball game.  Twenty individual players have reached the milestone.

Wilt Chamberlain, of course, is famous for his 100-point game.  That was against the New York Knicks in 1962.  That record may seem unbreakable, but Kobe Bryant almost got there in 2006, when he dropped 81 against the Toronto Raptors.

Chamberlain has scored 60 points or more 32 times.  Bryant is next, 5 times.  Then it’s Michael Jordan at 4 and Elgin Baylor at 3.  They are the only players to do it more than once.

Wilt Chamberlain, Michael Jordan and the NBA’s Single Season Points Leaders

Wilt Chamberlain Has Four of the Top Five Highest Scoring Seasons in History

Wilt Chamberlain Has Four of the Top Five Highest Scoring Seasons in History (kterrl.wordpress.com)

The NBA is back!  How great is that?

Let’s get our feet wet again and take a look at the top 25 highest scoring seasons for a player in history.

Every one of these guys, except for Kobe Bryant who will be, are in the Basketball Hall of Fame.

More than half of this list (13) is claimed by Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.  Wilt is the only player to top 4,000 points.

Take note also that the NBA’s offensive game has changed over the years greatly.  Jordan, Bryant and Karl Malone are the latest players to make the list – and the only ones post-1982.

Level of talent, changes in officiating and league rules and perhaps a lull in super-offensive players after Jordan are all reasons why. Compare the top list with the second list below that runs down the top scorers in the league for each of the past 30 years.
