Manchester United, Arsenal and Football Clubs with the Most FA Cup Titles
Posted by Vin Getz
Manchester City and Wigan are set for the 2013 FA Cup Final, which will take place about a month from now – on May 11 at Wembley Stadium in London.
It will be City’s 10th Final appearance. The Blues have won five.
Wigan Athletic is making its first appearance ever. The Latics have been around since 1932.
The FA Cup, or Football Association Challenge Cup, is, according to the official site (thefa.com), “the oldest and most famous domestic cup competition in the world.”
The first was at the end of the 1871-1872 season. Including 2012-13, there have been 132 Cups – every year but between 1915-16 and 1918-19 and 1939-40 and 1944-45 due to the two World Wars.
The Football Association is the oldest of its kind in the world and governs the sport of football in England, pro and amateur.
Every English pro team (for those not too familiar with the sport: every time you hear “Manchester,” “Arsenal,” “Chelsea,” etc) is part of the Football Association “league.”
The FA Cup annually pits hundreds of English football clubs in an elimination tournament, somewhat similar to the NCAA Tournament. There are 14 rounds, including many qualifiers for regional teams.
Not all clubs have to go through qualifiers or every round. For example, Premier League clubs join in the Third Round after many clubs have already been knocked out.
All ties are replayed until there is a winner.
For more about The Football Association and the FA Cup, check out the FA’s home page and history page.
Anyway, on to today’s list – FA clubs that have won multiple FA Cups, led by the Manchester United Red Devils with 11. Rival Arsenal, the Gunners, are one behind.

NCAA Basketball: Conferences with the Most NCAA Tournament Championships
Posted by Vin Getz
There have been 74 NCAA Tournaments. The first one was in 1939, won by the Oregon Ducks. That is their only championship, but it is one of 15 for the PAC-12, the conference with the most NCAA titles.
The ACC, SEC and Big Ten have double-digit championships, as well.
Here’s a list of every single NCAA Championship winner by conference.
There has been so much conference jumping and evolution lately. These winners below are assigned to the conference of their championship years.
For example, even though Louisville is a current member of the Big East, their two titles were won when the Cardinals were a member of the now-defunct Metropolitan Collegiate Athletic Conference.
A different kind of example is the case of the Kansas Jayhawks. They won two as a member of the Big Eight Conference, which became the Big 12 in 1996-97 with the addition of four schools. After that, Kansas won its third.
For more information on each of the conference’s NCAA Tournament performances (schools, W-L, Final Fours, etc) click on the conference below.
