Ray Allen and the Most Three-Pointers in NBA Playoff History

Ray Allen: King of All Three-Point Shooters

Ray Allen: King of All Three-Point Shooters

If there were any doubt Ray Allen was the best three-point shooter in NBA history, he vanquished the thought Thursday in Game 3 of the first-round playoff matchup between his Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Allen became the all-time three-point leader in postseason history, passing Reggie Miller. He already is the all-time regular season champ (also having passed Miller in 2011).

Allen and Miller are the only players with at least 300 postseason three-pointers (they are also the only ones with over 2,000 in the regular season).

Neither’s regular-season marks will be caught anytime soon – both have over 2,500 treys, in fact. But their playoff marks are much more breakable, and more breakable than you probably have considered.

If Kobe Bryant, for example, gets back to health, and the Los Angeles Lakers get into better form, he has a good chance of becoming the all-time leader.

Today’s list features the top 20 players with the most postseason treys. It’s a list filled with active players, including Allen and Bryant, as well as LeBron James and six others.

Kobe Bryant and the Most Minutes Played in NBA Playoff History

Kobe Bryant (c.) Is Set To Become the NBA’s All-Time Postseason Minutes Played Leader, Surpassing Kareem Abdul Jabbar (r.). Magic Johnson (l.) Also Ranks.

Kobe Bryant will one day be the all-time postseason minutes leader. It could happen this season, depending on the Los Angeles Lakers playoff chances (and how well they do if they make it).

As of this writing, the Lakers, saddled with injuries all season, cling to the eighth spot by just a half game.

Bryant is only 210 minutes away from the all-time leader, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Over the course of his career, Kobe has averaged nearly 40 (39.3) minutes per playoff game. So, it will take six average games for him to catch Kareem.

They, Scottie Pippen and Shaquille O’Neal are the four NBA players to log over 8,000 playoff minutes.

Tim Duncan, Derek Fisher and Jason Kidd (along with Bryant) are still adding to their tallies.

Playoff time = Hall of Fame apparently (most of the time). Everyone of these guys are Hall of Famers (or will be), except probably Fisher, Robert Horry and Horace Grant.

PLAYER MINUTES
1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 8,851
2. Kobe Bryant 8,641
3. Scottie Pippen 8,105
4. Shaquille O’Neal 8,098

NBA All-Star Game: Top 20 Players with the Most Selections and Appearances

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Has the Most NBA All-Star Game Selections and Appearances

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Has the Most NBA All-Star Game Selections and Appearances

Hey, the 2013 NBA All-Star Weekend is here! Awesome. For a refresher and a little prep, check out the full East and West rosters, including reserves. The NBA’s official web coverage is here.

For something extra, though, more angles and the most and best in analysis and  fan and pro writing, check out Bleacher Report through this weekend and through the week leading up to the NBA trading deadline on Feb 21 – and after for analysis.

Anyway, on to today’s sports list, which after all that is of course All-Star Game related.

Here are the top 20 players with the most NBA All-Star Game selections and appearances. These guys were selected so often, that inevitably most missed one or a few.

On top of both lists is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar who was selected almost two decades worth of times (19), appearing in all but one (18).

Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Shaquille O’Neal have the second most selections at 15.

On the appearances side, three actives – Bryant, Garnett and Tim Duncan – come in second at 14.

If Kobe, 34, doesn’t retire at the end of his current contract (through 2013-14) as he has been suggesting, maybe he’ll have a shot at catching Kareem. I don’t think it’s going to happen.

LeBron James is standing at nine.
