Video: Top 5 NBA Players with the Most MVPs

LeBron James Will Win One...Two...Three...Four?...Five?...Six? MVPs. Not if Kevin Durant Has Something to Say About It

LeBron James Will Win One…Two…Three…Four?…Five?…Six MVPs? Not if Kevin Durant Has Something to Say About It

LeBron James is looking for his fourth MVP. That would put him in select company. Only four players in history have won at least that many. Four other players have won three.

All together, out of 57 MVP awards, 12 players have won more than once.

In 2012-13, the frontrunners, as of the date of this post and according to the NBA’s MVP Ladder, are James and Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony, each of whom are looking for their first.

Here’s my full-length pitch for Carmelo Anthony, given some circumstances: Breaking Down Why Carmelo Anthony Will Be a 2012-13 MVP Candidate.

Today’s video post is based on a Sports List of the Day original: NBA Players with Multiple MVPs.

Let’s look at the top 5 in video. It’s the top 8 really, thanks to ties.

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoff MVPs (Conn Smythe Trophy Winners) – By Team, Position and More

Patrick Roy Wins His Third Conn Smythe (and Fourth Stanley Cup)

Patrick Roy Wins His Third Conn Smythe (and Fourth Stanley Cup)

The Conn Smythe Trophy (MVP of the NHL Playoffs) has been awarded since the 1964-65 postseason, when Canadiens‘ center Jean Beliveau took home the first.

Five times in its history, the trophy has been awarded to a player on a losing team.

The Montreal Canadiens have the most, 9, followed by the Detroit Red Wings at 5.

Here’s a little Conn Smythe analysis: all the Conn Smythe winners, by team and by position. Plus, winners with the most (five have won it more than once) and finally a list of those five from losing teams.

Thanks to my source hockey-reference.com where you can see a straight-up chronological listing of all the Stanley Cup Playoff MVPs and their stats.

Miami Heat’s LeBron James is 2012 NBA MVP: Players with the Most MVPs

LeBron James Wins His Third NBA MVP

LeBron James Wins His Third NBA MVP

The Miami Heat franchise has its first MVP: LeBron James.

James takes home the 2012 NBA MVP award; He won two back-to-back with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009 and 2010.  So LeBron has won three of the last four MVPs, with Derrick Rose in between in 2011.

LeBron is halfway to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar‘s all-time leading six MVPs. The Chicago Bulls‘ Michael Jordan and Boston Celtics‘ Bill Russell have five apiece in second.

Here’s a list of all NBAers who won more than one MVP.

Want more NBA MVP knowledge? Check out previous posts, NBA MVPs by Team and Back-to-Back NBA MVPs, as well as my source basketball-reference.com, where you can see the chronological list of winners from Bob Pettit (the first in 1956) to today.
