Ichiro Suzuki and the Top 20 Baseball Players with the Most Hits in a Season
Posted by Vin Getz
Ichiro Suzuki holds the all-time single season hit record. In 2004, Ichiro broke George Sisler‘s 84-year old record of 257 hits in one season. Suzuki got him by five more.
Ichiro appears three times on the below list of the top 20 players with the most hits in a season. Sisler, twice.
Most of these amazing hitters made their mark pre-1930: 13 of the 20.
Then, in 1977 Rod Carew hit 239. He was followed by Wade Boggs and Don Mattingly in the 1980s. Three of the purest hitters the game has ever seen, I might add.
Ichiro makes up three of the final four slots. He’s joined by one-off Darin Erstad who out of nowhere had 240 hits in 2000. Hmm.
Lotta lefties. Hmm again.

PGA: Tiger Woods’ Career Masters Record and Results
Posted by Vin Getz
Tiger Woods is making his 19th professional appearance at the Masters in 2013. Time flies.
For the first time in a while, he is the favorite to win.
Per the Wall Street Journal, “just in time for the Masters Tournament, golf superstar Tiger Woods is back at the top of the sport’s rankings.”
The BBC asks “is Tiger Woods ready to reign again?”
And Yahoo tells us “the final Masters odds have Tiger Woods well ahead of the rest of the field.”
Boy, it sounds like the guy hasn’t even played golf for a while. But if you look at Woods’ career Masters record, you can see, despite all the controversy and questions surrounding him and his game, that in 2010 and 2011 he finished fourth both times (-11 and then -10).
The bar is understandably very high for Tiger, one of the greatest to ever play the game of golf. If anyone else put up those scores in recent years, fan and media perspective would be the complete opposite. That golfer might be considered “on the cusp” of greatness.
Tiger missed only one cut of the 18 Masters he has played, winning four green jackets, finishing second twice and in the top five 10! times. Simply incredible.
Follow @VinGetzLIST UPDATED: Apr. 14, 2013 to include Tiger’s 2013 finish. That makes three out of the last four years Woods’ has finished fourth.

Houston Rockets Tie Record: Top 20 Teams with the Most Three-Pointers in a Game
Posted by Vin Getz

The Houston Rockets Tie the NBA Record with 23 Three-Pointers in a Game (l-r. James Harden, Chandler Parsons and Jeremy Lin)
Jeremy Lin (5), James Harden (4) and Chandler Parsons (4) combined for 13 three-pointers tonight, and the Houston Rockets tied the all-time record for three-pointers made in a game as they beat the Golden State Warriors 140-109.
The Rockets had 23 treys, tying the Orlando Magic of 2009, who did it on the road (A).
Forty-one teams in NBA history sunk 17 three-pointers in a game. Then, the field really shrinks. Only 18 teams dropped 18 three-pointers. Then, you have today’s list – the top 20 teams with the most three-pointers in a game – or every team with at least 19 of them.
The New York Knicks feature the most times – six! – followed by the Phoenix Suns with five.
Have you noticed the increasing importance of the 3P in the NBA over the past decade, or at least the reckless abandon with which many teams are embracing the long-distance shot?
A full 22 of the 23 teams listed below made their mark post-2005, which is borderline shocking. And five are from this season, barely past its halfway point. What happened to the 1980s and 1990s?
