Justin Verlander Wins AL MVP: Pitchers Who Have Won Both MVP and Cy Young in Same Year
Justin Verlander has won the 2011 American League MVP, becoming the first pitcher since Dennis Eckersley in 1992 to win both the MVP and Cy Young in the same season.
All together, 10 pitchers have won both awards in the same year.
The Cy Young was first given in 1956. The MVP, however, has been awarded since 1911. In the intervening 45 years, 14 pitchers won the MVP as well.
