NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs: Active Skaters with the Most Goals

Jaromir Jagr is the Active NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Goals Leader (2012-13)

Jaromir Jagr is the Active NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Goals Leader (2012-13)

Sports List of the Day has already run down skaters with the most career goals in NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs history.

The Boston BruinsJaromir Jagr is the only active player on that list. Of course, then, he tops today’s list (and by quite a margin – over 20 goals). These are the top 20 active skaters (as of 2012-13) with the most postseason goals.

Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin are the only skaters below in their 20′s. On solid franchises (Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Captials), these three could very well become 1-2-3 in actives in not too long a time.

Maybe one or all will catch Jagr’s 78.

Goal statistics are accurate as of the date of this post (May 10, 2013). You can see the 2013 postseason’s goal leaders here.

Teams that made the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs are noted with an asterisk.

NHL: Regular Season Records of Every Stanley Cup Champion

The 1976-77 Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens Had the Best Regular-Season Record of All Time

The 1976-77 Stanley Cup Champion Montreal Canadiens Had the Best Regular-Season Record of All Time

Here they are, every NHL Stanley Cup Championship team (all 93 of them) and each one’s regular season record since the first winner – the Toronto Arenas (now the Maple Leafs) in 1917-18.

Believe it or not, two champions – the 1937-38 Chicago Black Hawks and the 1948-49 Toronto Maple Leafs – finished the their seasons with losing records.

The 1952 Detroit Red Wings were the first Stanley Cup winners to crack the 100-point mark – and that was with only 70 games on the schedule.

Since the NHL upped the number of games played to 80 in 1974-75 (and later 82 in 1995-96, with 84 games in 1992-93 and 1993-94), only 10 champions recorded  fewer than 100 points during the regular season – not counting the 1994-95 New Jersey Devils, who won in a lockout-shortened season and whoever wins in 2012-13 for the same reason.

The 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens finished with 132 points – most of any team ever. You can check out the top 20 teams with the most points in a single season in a previous post: The Best Teams in Hockey History.

Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby Are Looking for Another Stanley Cup in 2013

The NHL is on! Commissioner Gary Bettman and the owners have at last agreed to a new (10 year!) CBA with the NHL players’ union. The truncated 2013 season (48 games) is tentatively set to begin on Saturday, January 19th.

So, who’s going to win the 2013 Stanley Cup?

Here are the opening odds for every team.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers are the favorites to win it all.

Use today’s list to compare this season’s odds with how each team finished last year.

Most improved teams? The Minnesota Wild and Carolina Hurricanes.

Biggest fallers? How about last year’s Stanley Cup losers, the New Jersey Devils.

Then you have the Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators and Phoenix Coyotes who look like they won’t repeat last year’s postseason appearances.
