Major League Baseball’s World Series Sweeps
Posted by Vin Getz
Sports List of the Day has already checked out NBA Finals Sweeps and NHL Stanley Cup Sweeps. Well, it’s October, and here are your MLB World Series sweeps.
There have been 106 World Series played between 1903 and 2010. There was no World Series in 1904 and 90 years later, in 1994.
Twenty World Series have been sweeps.
The Yankees (here we go again) have the most sweeps – with eight. They’ve also been swept the most – three times.
Updated Oct 28, 2012: The 2012 San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers to become the 21st team to sweep their opponent in the World Series.

NHL Stanley Cup Finals Sweeps
Posted by Vin Getz
Sports List of the Day looked at NBA Finals sweeps yesterday. There have been eight in NBA history.
The NHL, on the other hand, has had 25(!), including four in a row once. Today’s list takes a look at these NHL Stanley Cup Finals sweeps.
While a number of NHL teams vied for the championship between 1915 and 1926, the Stanley Cup de facto became an “NHL-only” prize beginning in 1927.
There has not been a sweep in the Stanley Cup Finals since 1998, the longest stretch in the history of the league. The Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens have each appeared in eight Stanley Cup sweeps, the most. The Canadiens sport an astonishing 7-1 record in these contests.
Between 1968-1970, the St. Louis Blues did their best Buffalo Bills impression and got swept three times in a row.
