Sports List of the Day looked at NBA Finals sweeps yesterday.  There have been eight in NBA history.

The NHL, on the other hand, has had 25(!), including four in a row once.  Today’s list takes a look at these NHL Stanley Cup Finals sweeps.

While a number of NHL teams vied for the championship between 1915 and 1926, the Stanley Cup de facto became an “NHL-only” prize beginning in 1927.

There has not been a sweep in the Stanley Cup Finals since 1998, the longest stretch in the history of the league.  The Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens have each appeared in eight Stanley Cup sweeps, the most.  The Canadiens sport an astonishing 7-1 record in these contests.

Between 1968-1970, the St. Louis Blues did their best Buffalo Bills impression and got swept three times in a row.
