NCAA Football: Heisman Winners vs. AP Players of the Year

Like Most, RGIII Won Both the Heisman and the AP Player of the Year

Like Most, RGIII Won Both the Heisman and the AP Player of the Year

There is a good deal of hype and hoopla surrounding the annual Heisman Trophy presentation.

The Heisman has been awarded to college football’s best player since 1935. For a list of all the Heisman Trophy winners, check out my source, sports-reference.com. By most counts (including mine), it is the official word on the matter.

But in 1998, the Associated Press came out with their version of the award, the Player of the Year. Usually the Heisman and AP POY have been in agreement, but there have been four times when that was not so. They are highlighted below.

Jeremy Lin vs. The NBA: Where Does Lin Rank Amongst the Point Guards?

Is Jeremy Lin One of the Best Point Guards in the League?

Is Jeremy Lin One of the Best Point Guards in the League?

The second half of the NBA season is underway, and Linsanity – version 2.0 – is about to launch.

A true test awaits: Check out Jeremy Lin’s next eight matchups, which include Rookie of the Year leader Kyrie Irving tonight, Derrick Rose, Rajon Rondo and Tony Parker.

Following that disaster in Miami, it’s clear the league is catching up to Lin, and Jeremy will need to make the necessary adjustments to up his game – namely dealing with swarming defenses, improving his own defense and adding a little left-handed diversity to his game.

As for now, and despite the Heat loss, the kid is still looking pretty damn good, and should continue to be a major contributor and catalyst for a once-limping New York Knicks team.

Now, I understand it’s just a small sample set against not the best teams, but let’s take a look at how Jeremy Lin’s stats/averages compare with the rest of the point guards around the NBA…

New York Giants vs. New York Jets Results All Time

Giants and Jets Quarterbacks Eli Manning and Mark Sanchez

Giants and Jets Quarterbacks Eli Manning and Mark Sanchez (mbd.scout.com)

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy Holidays from Sports List of the Day!  Enjoy.

The New York Giants vanquished the New York Jets from the postseason and in the process kept their playoff hopes alive.

Despite Eli Manning‘s 9 for 27 and the Jets holding possession for 36 minutes, the Giants won 29-14.

This was the 12th regular season matchup between the two teams, and probably the most important as both had (and still have) their postseason hopes on the line.

The Jets now need to win and also need the Cincinnati Bengals, Tennessee Titans and either the Oakland Raiders or Denver Broncos to lose.  The Giants need to beat the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday night to win the NFC East and make it to the playoffs.

Here’s a look at the results of all the Giants-Jets games over the years.  The Giants have won eight of the 12, including the last five in a row.

All games were played at The Meadowlands, except the first two (Shea Stadium, Yale Bowl) and yesterday’s (MetLife Stadium at the New Meadowlands).

Home team in caps.
