Most Points in NBA History: Will Kobe Bryant Catch Michael Jordan?

Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant

Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant (

Yes…and possibly even more.

There’s been a lot of talk over the past few years comparing Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.  To me, it’s a ridiculous discussion.  There is no comparison.  Jordan remains head and shoulders above Bryant – statistically and more.

But there is one definite place where Kobe will surpass Michael: all-time points.  Bryant is less than 5,000 points from overtaking Air Jordan.

Assuming Kobe continues draining his average of about 2,000+ points a year, expect him to overtake Michael in just three seasons (even with the shortened one this year).  That will place Bryant third all time.  He will be 36 by then.

Catching Karl Malone and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar from that point will be difficult.  Bryant will need to play at least four or five more years beyond age 36 to catch up.  I don’t think it will happen.

Kevin Garnett, Dirk Nowitzki and Ray Allen are the other actives on this list below.

Those three-pointers sure helped Allen crack the top 25.
