The Los Angeles Dodgers Win Their 13th N.L. West Title in 2013

The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the National League West for the 13th time tonight. The Dodgers have won the N.L. West more than any other team.

There was no West before 1969. Through 1968, there was simply one whole National League and one whole American League – the winners of each just met in the World Series.

In 1969, both leagues were divided up between East and West. In the strike-shortened/postseason cancelled 1994 season, the Central division was added.

Since 1969, an N.L. West champ has won the World Series eight times (of 43 postseasons), denoted with an asterisk.

It could become nine in 2013, though. The Dodgers are the current favorites to win it all.
