Alabama may have lost in tonight’s Sugar Bowl, 45-31 to Oklahoma, but the Crimson Tide still own the most Sugar Bowl wins (eight) and appearances (14) of all.

The Sugar Bowl has been played since the 1934 college football season. All 80 Bowls but one (Georgia, January 2, 2006, after Hurricane Katrina), have been played down in New Orleans, Louisiana. There has only been one tie, in 1987.

Tulane University’s Tulane Stadium hosted the first 41 Sugar Bowls before the game moved to The Superdome in 1975. The Tulane Green Wave, the home team, won the first on January 1, 1935, defeating the Temple Owls 20-14.

Fifty-one schools have played in the Sugar Bowl, with 36 different winners.
