Texas and Schools with the Most Cotton Bowl Wins and Appearances

The Texas Longhorns Own The Cotton Bowl Classic

The Texas Longhorns Own The Cotton Bowl Classic

The Missouri Tigers have won their second Cotton Bowl tonight, besting the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 41-31.

But it’s the Texas Longhorns who have the most Cotton Bowl (or “Cotton Bowl Classic” as it is now called) wins ever – a way ahead 11, and one tie to boot.

They are, after all, the home team. The CBC has been played in Texas since it’s inception in 1937 (at the end of the 1936 season).

Today, and since the 2009 game, the Cotton Bowl has been hosted at the Dallas Cowboys‘ state of the art AT&T Stadium in Arlington. Before that it was played in Dallas at Cotton Bowl Stadium, which is still standing and is now the home of the Heart of Dallas Bowl.

The Longhorns have 22 appearances in the Cotton Bowl, again way ahead of second place – but they’re not really the only home team. Texas schools – the Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Christian Horned Frogs, Houston Cougars, Rice Owls, Southern Methodist Mustangs, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor Bears, and Randolph Field Ramblers – have appeared in a combined 60 Cotton Bowls.

Overall, 46 different schools have participated.
