The 15 Longest Plays in Super Bowl History (Pass or Run)

Muhsin Muhammad Catching The Longest Pass In Super Bowl History

This post started out looking at the 10 longest plays in Super Bowl history, but it turns out there have been exactly 15 plays of 40 yards or more…so here they are.

Jake Delhomme‘s 85-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad in Super Bowl XXXVIII is the longest passing or running play in Super Bowl history. Their Carolina Panthers wound up losing to the New England Patriots, though.

The second longest play was on the ground – and in a winning effort. Willie Parker‘s 75-yard touchdown run in Super Bowl XL wound up being the winning points for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they took down the Seattle Seahawks.

Only two of the 15 longest plays were runs.

More than half of the longest plays – eight – were for TDs.

As you may have delved from reading Sports List of the Day, I’m a fan of Kurt Warner‘s induction into the Hall of Fame. A recent post here exposed Warner as the most accurate quarterback in postseason history. Add that to three Super Bowl appearances (with two different teams) and one ring.

Here’s some more fodder. Warner owns four of the longest plays below. The only other QB to appear more than once? Peyton Manning. He’s got two.

Thanks to pro-football-reference.com‘s Super Bowl Play Finder, where I found this, every play of nine yards or more.
