Raisa Smetanina And Stefania Belmondo Have 10 Winter Olympics Medals Apiece

Yesterday, Sports List of the Day looked at the Winter Olympics‘ all-time medal leaders on the men’s side. Today, it’s the women’s turn.

And like the men, two ladies are tied for the top spot.

Russian Raisa Smetanina and Italian Stefania Belmondo both collected 10 medals in cross country skiing.

Smetanina began her medaling career back in 1976 and continued on through five Olympic Games – and medaled in each one – through 1992.

Belmondo played in five Olympics, too, between 1988 and 2002, but missed medaling at Calgary the first time around.

To see in which Olympics the top 20 athletes below won their medals, check out my source, sports-reference.com, where I punched in this query.
