Sports List of the Day has already covered all the Slam Dunk winners (in order and by height), all the Three-Point Shootout winners (in order and by Final Round score) and all the Rising Stars MVPs – not to mention all the MVPs of the All-Star Game itself.

What about the Skills Challenge? Damian Lillard won his second tonight, pairing up with Trey Burke to win the Challenge in a debut tw0-man team format. Dwyane Wade and Steve Nash are the other multiple winners.

So, what is the Skills Challenge and when did it pop up on the scene?

The Slam Dunk Contest was actually an invention of the ABA. It was first contested in 1976, the season before the NBA-ABA merger, and the winner was none other than Dr. J, Julius Erving.

The contest was revived in 1984 and has been played annually, since (minus 1998 for “lack of interest” and 1999 thanks to a lockout).

The first Three-Point Shootout was in 1986 and has been a part of All-Star Weekend every year since then (except for 1999).

The Skills Challenge joined those two mainstays in 2003 and has become an integral part of the mid-February festivities. The contest could also be called the Backcourt Challenge, as it is a test of guards’ skills: dribbling, layups, passing and shooting are all put to the timed test on an obstacle course. There are no penalties, but each challenge must be completed (for example, making the jump shot or using up all the balls available).

Here are all the winners – ranked by the best…the fastest winning times. It’s Deron Williams with the swiftest performance of them all.
