Yesterday, Sports List of the Day looked at the NBA‘s average ticket prices and fan cost indices by team. The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers – the most valuable and most popular pro basketball teams – topped both lists.

Today, let’s look at the NHL cost breakdown.

It’s the Canadian teams – hockey is Canada’s game, after all (it was invented there) – that boast the most expensive average tickets. The five most expensive, in fact, are all sold in Canada. There are only seven Canadian teams in the whole NHL, and five of them make up the top five.

The Toronto Maple Leafs lead the pack, the only team with an average ticket price over $100. The Leafs also sport a big-time $616 fan cost index (definition here). No other team is over $500.

New York Rangers‘ fans pay more for their team’s tix than other Americans – an average just a shade under $75. For the prototypical family of four, though, the Boston Bruins will set you back the most.
