NFL: Longest Current Consecutive Playoff Appearance Streaks and Droughts

Aaron Rodgers’ Green Bay Packers And Tom Brady’s New England Patriots Are Looking To Continue Their NFL-Best Playoff Streak

Talk about football parity. Every season, more than one-third of the NFL (12 of 32 teams, 37.5 percent) makes the playoffs. Seems like there would be a lot of postseason repeaters for a lot of years based on that number.

Not so at all.

The longest current playoff appearance streak is just five seasons, ridden by the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots, two teams you’d probably guess.

Three teams have made the postseason the last three years and two the last two. Finally, 2013 saw five new teams make the playoffs.

Even the droughts aren’t that lengthy, save for a couple of teams – by definition, the “usual suspects” these days, again that you probably can guess.

The Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders have each not made the postseason in over 10 years.

It’s possible the Bills and Browns will climb out of their hole in 2014, but the Raiders have all but already locked up their 12th fruitless season in a row while (still) coasting downhill on one of the longest losing streaks ever.
