Over the years, everybody gets a chance to go on a postseason run in the NBA for a while, or just about everybody.

Postseason dynasties do abound in pro basketball. Almost nobody just makes the playoffs one season in the middle of nowhere. Teams always make it back at least a few times in a row or say five out of six years.

Many have streaks of seven, eight or nine seasons in a row.

And a full 15 – half the league – have at one time or another sported a postseason appearance streak of 10 years in a row. They are listed below.

What about two decades in a row? Yup, three teams have done it, our leaders in today’s post: the Philadelphia 76ers (and Syracuse Nationals) of the 1950’s and 1960’s and the Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz of the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Imagine that. Being in the postseason every season for at least 20 years. Wow.

Quite the opposite of the Golden State Warriors, one of the no-shows. The Warriors, out of Oakland, (through Philadelphia and San Francisco) have never been to the postseason more than five consecutive seasons – way back in the first five seasons of the BAA/NBA itself. Another wow. The Warriors are one of the original teams.

The Boston Celtics, another original team, have a 19-season playoff streak, fourth best, and their mortal enemies, the Los Angeles Lakers have three postseason streaks of 10 years or more.

The longest current streak is about to start knocking on the top four. The San Antonio Spurs will tie the Celts if they make it again in 2015-16.
