Carlos Beltran and Players with 300 Home Runs and 300 Stolen Bases

Here’s a rather surprisingly short list with a couple surprises of its own.

Carlos Beltran is amongst the only eight players EVER in baseball history to achieve apparently the ultimate in combining speed and power: banging at least 300 career home runs and thieving 300 career stolen bases with it.

Beltran joins fellow active – and current teammate – Alex Rodriguez.

Roid rangers Barry Bonds and Rodriguez are one-two on this list (sorted by home runs), but they very possibly would have made this particular list without them anyway.

This is a recent thing. Seven of the eight players posting this double-double played sometime in the 1980’s or later. The only abstainer? Well, the great Willie Mays.

Most of these guys are power hitters with a secondary strength in stealing bases. Only journeymen Bobby Bonds (eight teams) and Steve Finley (eight teams, too) had more SBs than HRs.

PLAYER HR SB CAREER SPAN
1. Barry Bonds 762 514 1986 – 2007
2. Alex Rodriguez 678 323 1994 – Present
3. Willie Mays 660 338 1951 – 1973
4. Andre Dawson 438 314 1976 – 1996
5. Carlos Beltran 380 311 1998 – Present
6. Bobby Bonds 332 461 1968 – 1981
7. Reggie Sanders 305 304 1991 – 2007
8. Steve Finley 304 320 1989 – 2007
